THE FIRST TRIP TO THE SALT THIS YEAR WAS ROUGH AND SLIPPERY..THEY SPUN FIVE OF THE SIX ATTEMPTS AND FINALLY UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY NEEDED MORE WEIGHT TO KEEP IT ON THE TRACK..THE OFFY HAD PLENTY OF BEANS WITH THE NEW BLOCK..WE'VE CONFIGURED A FLOOR MAT TOTALING 1 1/2' THICK STEEL, PLUS LEAD WEIGHTS THAT GO BELOW THE FRONT AND REAR AXLES ON SHELVES THAT BILL WENDT FABRICATED..TOTAL ADDITIONAL WEIGHT IS 550 POUNDS..LAST YEAR MIGHTY MOUSE RAN 124 MPH AGAINST A 135 RECORD WITH THE STOCK TURBO, THIS YEAR IT AVERAGED UNDER 80 MPH WITH THE TOO OVERSIZED TURBO..BILL WENDT WORKED WITH AN ENGINEER AT GARRETT AND CAME UP WITH A SMALLER IMPELLER TO KEEP THE TURBO SPINNING BETWEEN SHIFTS..IF YOU GET BELOW THE TURBO IT WILL NEVER PICK UP..THE WORLD FINALS HAVE LESS PARTICIPATION AND THE TRACK HAS HAD TWO MORE MONTHS TO DRY OUT SO THE COURSE SHOULD BE MUCH BETTER..WE SHIPPED ALL THE PIECES AND PARTS TO BONNEVILLE AND WE ARRIVE SEPTEMBER 29th TO INSTALL EVERYTHING..RACING STARTS OCTOBER 3rd..
UPDATE: THE WORLD FINALS WERE CANCELLED DUE TO WET CONDITIONS JUST HOURS BEFORE WE WERE TO FLY OUT THERE..TWO DAYS BEFORE THEY SAID WE WERE GOING TO RUN..ON OCTOBER 18th THE 3-MUST-BE-QUEERS WILL FLY TO SALT LAKE CITY AND PICK UP THE JEEP FROM THE HOTEL PARKING LOT (if it is still there) AND DRIVE THE 110 MILES TO WENDOVER..WE WILL SPEND 2-3 DAYS PREPING THE CARS FOR NEXT AUGUST..ADD 450 POUNDS TO THE #5, INSTALL NEW SPINDLES, AND A NEW CHUTE PACK..FOR MIGHTY `1MOUSE, INSTALL HIGHLY MODIFIED TURBO, BUILD 3" SHORT EXHAUST PIPE, REPAIR BROKEN SHOCK MOUNT, INSTALL NEW REAR SHOCKS, AND REPLACE GLOW PLUG SWITCH..WE WILL DRAIN THE WATER OUT OF BOTH.. PLUS WE WILL DRAIN THE FUEL FROM #5..WE WILL LEAVE EVERYTHING THERE AT CARMEN'S EXCEPT THE PREVERT RV WHICH WE WILL DRIVE THE 3000 MILES HOME..
